Job Description:

SUNY Orange seeks an individual with a commitment to excellence in education  to support the implementation of Guided Pathways efforts by providing comprehensive academic advising and career planning to incoming students involving extensive student outreach, and demonstrating exemplary customer service.

The Academic Advisor/Retention Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive academic advising services and facilitating career exploration to their student caseload while providing direct assistance to students during onboarding, (New START) orientation and throughout their first year experience at the College.  The position supports student retention, persistence and academic success and provides direct assistance to students through systematic outreach, timely interventions and on-going academic planning and support. Must be available to travel between the College’s two campuses as well as work occasional evenings and weekend office hours as needed.

 

Requirements:

Education Required:         Master’s degree.

Experience Required:       Two years of full-time academic or career advising (college level) or experience guiding college bound students (traditional age to adults) through the college exploration/preparation process. Familiarity with the principles of student development and best practices in  academic advising including current and emerging advising approaches to support continuous improvement in the delivery of advising services.  Demonstrated workshop development and group facilitation skills.  Computer literate; knowledge of Google and MS Office.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

Experience in a community college setting.
Three years of progressively responsible academic advising/career advising experience at the college level.
Experience working with at-risk students in an educational setting with measurable results.
Proficiency with Banner, Degree Works, Starfish, Microsoft Office, web-based applications,, video conferencing; Google and MS Suites.
Experience teaching first year seminars or similar courses.
Experience working with and presenting information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced office.
Ability to effectively establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Fluency in Spanish.

Salary: $61,185 per Faculty contract.

This position is a 12 month, tenure track position.  SUNY Orange offers a very competitive benefits package which includes excellent low cost health insurance.
