Job Description:

SUNY Orange is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Academic Advising to join their team in the Academic Advising office.

In collaboration with the Director and Associate Director, the Assistant Director of Academic Advising provides leadership, administrative oversight and supervision of academic advising functions at both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses. The Assistant Director works with academic departments to introduce, train and promote the use of advising planning tools. The Assistant Director also identifies and implements academic advising transitional services and initiatives that meet the needs of students (departmental group advising, virtual advising, etc.).

Close collaboration with academic Associate Vice Presidents, Department Chairs and Student Services Directors is vital to the success of this position. This position also acts as a veteran’s certifying official for the College.

This position requires work on all campuses as well as evening hours as needed.

Requirements:

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree.

Experience Required: Two (2) years of academic advising experience in a college setting; experience directing the work of others; proficiency in introducing and integrating new technologies or initiatives to enhance the delivery of advising services. Proficiency with MS suite and strong communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

• Two years of supervisory experience in a college setting.

• Community College or higher education experience.

• Experience with Ellucian Banner, Banner Communications, DegreeWorks, Starfish.

• Proficiency with Google suite and virtual conferencing.

• Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with supervising personnel, coworkers, all constituents and the public.

• Performs well under pressure, within time constraints, with a high degree of accuracy, diplomacy and confidentiality.

• Ability to coordinate work flow while dealing with multiple projects and deadlines.

• Ability to present complex information and data in coherent fashion.

• Must be able to travel between the college’s two campuses and other sites.

• Bilingual skills.

Salary: $52,777 – $67,025 per annum, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, 12 month, Staff & Chair, Grade 50 position.
