Organizational Unit Overview
The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership, research, scholarship and practice.
The East Carolina University College of Nursing is involved with the RIBN (Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses) project along with other colleges and universities in the state. The CON received funding from the Foundation for Nursing Excellence via the Duke Endowment for 3 years when the project initially began. External funding for the project is no longer available but the demand for the project continues to increase. Currently, the CON and Beaufort County Community College, College of the Albemarle, Craven Community College, Lenoir Community College, Pitt Community College and Roanoke-Chowan Community College participate and have developed concurrent admission criteria, admission requirements, and curriculum. Students from each community college are admitted each fall. The plan is to increase participating community colleges and student enrollment in the project.
Job Duties
The ECU, College of Nursing continuously strives to create a learning environment and workplace culture that provides opportunity, support, and consideration for all students, employees, alumni, and other stakeholders. The College of Nursing is seeking applicants for a full-time Student Success Advocate. The ENC RIBN Student Success Advocate will coordinate all aspects of student services for ENC RIBN and promote successful completion for RIBN students within the expected time frame. This individual will work closely with ECU and the community colleges in the ENC region.
Duties include but not limited to:
· Communicates and collaborates with other ENC RIBN Student Success Advocates, ENC RIBN Coordinator, Admissions, Registrar and Financial Aid Directors, faculty, staff and various committee boards to assist in the successful implementation of all student services aspects for ENC RIBN schools and students.
· In collaboration with the ENC RIBN Coordinator, facilitates the dual approval process for ENC RIBN administrative documents such as the Financial Aid Consortium Agreement.
· Coordinates and updates assigned aspects of student services for ENC RIBN to ensure compliance and appropriate amendment with schools and nursing departments’ admissions and academic advising policies and procedures.
· Serves as a point of contact, resource person, catalyst and consultant for both prospective and currently enrolled ENC RIBN students, applicants, parents and secondary school personnel.
· Develops marketing and culturally diverse recruiting materials and strategies, such as brochures, websites and public presentations, to represent and promote ENC RIBN at career fairs, high schools, middle schools, community college pre-nursing, regional employment sites and community agencies and outreach events.
· Assimilates required application materials submitted to ENC RIBN, including high school/college transcripts, SAT and provides guidance for both prospective and enrolled students in meeting admission, course progression and degree completion criteria.
· Collaborates with community college nursing directors, ENC RIBN Coordinator, ECU Director of Admissions, and the ECU CON Admissions Committee to present qualified applicants to the ENC RIBN committee by which to base admission decisions. Assists ENC RIBN Coordinator in planning and facilitating an ECN RIBN Orientation.
· Conducts collaborative recruiting sessions at assigned locations throughout the ENC RIBN region.
· Conducts regular support sessions (at least once a semester) with currently enrolled ENC RIBN students. Support includes but not limited to discuss registration for the upcoming semester, academic concerns, personal challenges, support services, referral, and tutorial assistance as needed or future career/educational goals.
· Utilizes technology for e-mentoring and development of community using innovative strategies.
· Assists in early intervention of at- risk students and maintaining records of interventions and student contact.
· Manages RIBN data collection for analysis, and evaluation, progression, readmission, individualized curriculum plans, transcripts, degree requirements and registration.
· Coordinates RIBN focus groups and collaborative events.
· Conducts regular support sessions (at least once a semester) with currently enrolled ENC RIBN students.
· Support includes but not limited to discuss registration for the upcoming semester, academic concerns, personal challenges, support services, referral, and tutorial assistance as needed or future career/educational goals.
· Utilizes technology for e-mentoring and development of community using innovative strategies.
· Assists in early intervention of at- risk students and maintaining records of interventions and student contact.
Travel required within Eastern and central regions of the state. This may require leaving early in the morning and return late in the afternoon, and/or overnight stays and weekend activities.
Minimum Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s required in an appropriate field and two years administrative experience in an appropriate field.
· Competency in Excel or other data base software.
· Willingness to learn higher education data software.
· Proficient in verbal and writing skills. Able to work collaboratively with others. Able to make group presentations.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
· Master’s degree preferred in an appropriate field.
· Prior work experience should include project management, recruitment and public relations, student services, and/or data collection.
· Able to work independently, collaboratively and maintain confidentiality.
