JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing engaging and effective instruction and academic advising to graduate students. Working collaboratively with other faculty across all campuses and the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Visiting Professor of Counseling will engage with assessment to ensure excellent pedagogy and curriculum improvements within the discipline contributing to the Master of Arts in Counseling Program.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Advising

Teaching Load: Teaching a full-time course load, defined as eight (8) courses per year, four courses per semester, or the equivalent of 24 credit hours per year (12 credit hours per semester). Load definitions for courses involving laboratory instruction, supervision of experiential learning, or other variations from the traditional lecture/seminar format are determined in consultation with the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Course load primarily consists of undergraduate and graduate psychology courses.  There are options to teach interdisciplinary and liberal arts core courses as well.
Teaching Standards: Maintain a high standard in classroom teaching through engaging and effective pedagogy, exhibiting awareness and understanding of best practices in graduate education through application in the classroom, and remaining current with issues, curriculum, and classroom approaches in both the liberal arts and the candidate’s academic discipline.
General

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

 

Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counseling Education & Supervision, or equivalent (APA or CACREP preferred).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of applicable experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: List required and/or preferred certification, industry-specific requirements, required or preferred use of equipment, and all necessary job skills, abilities, and knowledge competencies) Provide a list of items below:

  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Kansas
  • Clinical Experience
  • Excellent teaching aptitudes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow university faculty as well as departments who support student life and academic achievement.
  • Ability to teach effectively in a graduate classroom.
  • Ability to be flexible in adjusting to and responding to both student and local university needs and concerns.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Interest in curriculum development.
