Director of Music Conservatory
School of the Arts at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Conservatory of Music anticipated to begin August 1, 2024. Applicants should demonstrate artistic and administrative leadership and higher education teaching experience, ideally in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
We seek a dynamic leader with artistic and curricular vision who will foster and strengthen relationships and build consensus within and beyond Conservatory programs. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in contemporary practice, able to work and think across disciplines, and committed to envisioning arts education for a new generation of students.
The Director’s responsibilities include oversight of the curriculum, full-time and part-time faculty and staff who provide coursework for around 300 undergraduate students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The Director is additionally responsible for artistic direction, budgetary, logistical, programmatic, and organizational plans as they work with the faculty to deliver an internationally recognized program that offers professional training. The salary for this position includes a location stipend and full benefits package.
The Director interacts with the Performing Arts Center and Neuberger Museum of Art, represents the music discipline within the College and the local, national, and international community, and works closely with the Provost to maintain and cultivate new external relationships with supporters, donors, friends, and patrons of theatre.

QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree (DMA, PhD, etc.) in an academic or studio discipline related to music is required. Evidence of effective leadership and increasing levels of responsibility in a music program or the equivalent professional music position is required. Candidate must demonstrate curricular, budgetary and external relationship management skills as well as exemplary written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Experience teaching at the college level commensurate with rank of Associate Professor or higher is required. Minority candidates are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to apply.
