Director of Human Services Programs

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) is a unique and vibrant learning institution.  It is a non-profit, regionally accredited institution offering associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, with state-of-the art campuses in the Financial District of Manhattan and the South Bronx hub district.   MCNY’s academic and social justice mission aims to prepare students for professional success and empower them to deliver positive change to their communities and workplaces.

The college is seeking a creative and forward-thinking Director of its Human Services programs, which prepare students for a diverse range of careers and opportunities in such fields as mental health, social work, community organizing, family and child welfare, and human services administration.

Responsibilities

  • Assume overall responsibility for the students, faculty, staff, administration, and operation of the college’s human services programs.
  • Collaborate with the faculty of the college’s human services programs, the director of admissions, the dean of students, and other colleagues to increase the enrollment of new and continuing students in the programs.
  • Collaborate with the programs’ faculty to develop and launch new human services-related degree and certificate programs that will attract a minimum number of required students by the end of year two.
  • Ensure that the programs meet all applicable NYSED, MSCHE, and specialized accreditors’ requirements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of college-wide initiatives, including the college’s strategic plan.

Faculty Development:

  • Works collaborate with the vice president for academic affairs to maintain the currency of all master course outlines for the human services programs. Revise human services curricula as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively to develop new programs under the auspices of the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education.
  • Assist with the initiation and recruitment of new faculty, both full and part- time.

Leadership

  • Participate in the strategic development of the college. Assume a leadership role in the college’s initiative on assessment.
  • Be responsible for the scheduling and staffing of all courses in the school’s undergraduate programs.
  • Participate in the college’s accreditation process

Enrollment Management and Student Success

  • Work with enrollment management to insure healthy enrollment.
  • Provide academic support to enrollment management to facilitate appropriate information about the program.
  • Lend informational knowledge and expertise to enrollment management in support of enrollment management goals

Teaching

  • Teach at least one course per term.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in a human services-related discipline; in exceptional cases, a master’s degree may be considered
  • Five or more years’ experience as an accomplished administrator at the level of assistant dean or above
  • Membership and activity in organizations related to human services education and human services professions
  • Familiarity with transdisciplinary models of education and cohort-based academic programs
  • Experience meeting the educational needs of commuting adult students in an urban setting
