Job Description

The College of Education & Community Innovation at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Early Childhood Education beginning August 2023.  Qualifications include a PhD or ABD in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Teacher Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood, Family Studies, or Human or Child Development; experience working with young children and young children with disabilities and their families; the capacity to travel to provide clinical supervision in diverse settings; the ability to deliver online and remote instruction to adult learners; the ability and willingness to engage in service at the unit, college, university, and community level; and a proven track record or potential for engaging in meaningful research and dissemination. Expertise in early childhood special education in inclusive settings and with children aged birth to kindergarten are especially sought after. Primary responsibilities include: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in early childhood education, both in person and using online synchronous and asynchronous modalities; supervising candidates in the field; advising students; participating in service obligations; and conducting meaningful research that will be disseminated to a diverse audience. Required Qualifications and Education:

  • An earned PhD degree or ABD in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Child Development, or Teacher Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood, Family Studies, or Human or Child Development
  • At least three years’ experience working with young children and young children with disabilities and their families (ages infant/toddler, preschool, or Kindergarten)
  • The capacity to travel to provide clinical supervision in diverse settings
  • The ability to engage with a variety of technologies to deliver instruction in online synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid modalities
  • Skill in delivering high quality and engaging instruction to adult learners
  • A passion for teaching culturally relevant, responsive, and sustaining pedagogies and preparing teachers to work with diverse populations
  • A commitment to educating the whole child and promoting inclusive teaching practices
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Coursework and/or experience in research methods that can be utilized to engage in empirical research
  • The ability to disseminate findings to a scholarly audience
  • The ability to collaborate in developing, implementing, and evaluating unit/university programs and activities
  • The ability to contribute professional expertise to the community or profession
