Job Description

The Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking one new faculty hire to complement the Department’s existing research lines in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This position was approved as part of a larger cluster hire in hire in AI for Community Health – involving multiple units at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree. This opportunity is part of an ambitious, ongoing campus and college expansion in artificial intelligence.  Candidates for these positions could be either senior (Associate or Professor) or early-career faculty (Assistant Professor). Successful candidates should have (or demonstrate potential to have) a history of leading large research groups and interdisciplinary collaborations, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring. We seek collaborative candidates with a strong, innovative vision. Competitive start-up packages exist for qualified candidates. The new hire will also help advance our self-supporting Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Health Administration (MHA), and Master of Science in Health Technology (MS-HT).

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a doctoral degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Community Health, Psychology, Kinesiology, other health-related fields, or in a field related to AI such as Human Factors, Computer Science, Engineering, or Robotics. A strong record of academic scholarship that meets the qualifications for the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor at the University of Illinois is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Ideally, candidates would demonstrate a focused line of research in one or more of the following areas: (a) health data analytics; (b) physical activity measurement for research and intervention purposes; (c) use of wearable technologies to monitor and manage chronic conditions, cognition or symptoms that predict advancement of disease; (d) use of AI to support healthcare decision-making, (e) machine learning to evaluate data from smart technologies in the home to predict health and wellness outcomes; (f) integration of AI and robotics to support in-home activities; (g) ethics of AI. The committee strongly encourages applications from women and persons from historically underrepresented groups.
