Job Description

The Department of Design, housed in the College of Human Sciences, serves approximately 300 undergraduate students (Interior Design and Apparel Design and Manufacturing Programs) and 30 graduate students (Interior and Environmental Design Programs).  The Interior Design program is CIDA accredited and provides students with a foundation of education and success for creative and employable interior design fields.  We are recruiting faculty who will provide cutting-edge opportunities for bright students while pursuing research, scholarship, and creative activities. New faculty are strongly supported. Generous research and seed grants, and research start-up packages are provided, and the Teaching Learning and Professional Development Center offers a variety of excellent services and training for faculty.
Texas Tech is one of the state’s major universities (40,322 students) consisting of 10 colleges, the Graduate School, the School of Law, and the School of Veterinary Medicine. Located on the same campus, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health. Texas Tech is located in the West Texas High Plains city of Lubbock (population 260,823), which has excellent medical facilities, a low cost of living, and a semi-arid, sunny, and mild climate.  Lubbock is within driving distance to Dallas, Austin, Santa Fe, and other major metropolitan cities.

Major/Essential Functions:
Applicants who have strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as the commitment to extra-curricular activities. Texas Tech University recently surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI); experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.

Required Qualifications:
Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity

Preferred Qualifications:
All applicants should have earned a terminal degree (Ph.D, MFA), by appointment time, in Interior Design or related field. At least one degree (undergraduate or graduate) must be in interior design.  Teaching experience preferred. NCIDQ certification preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach all courses levels and chair thesis and dissertation projects while providing service to the Department, the College, and the University as appropriate.

EEO Statement:

As an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, Texas Tech University is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse faculty committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. We actively encourage applications from all those who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community at Texas Tech University. The university welcomes applications from minoritized applicants, women, protected veterans, persons with disabilities, and dual-career couples.
