Job Description:

Budget Title:  Instructional Support Associate

Campus Title:  Instructional Support Associate: Ranger School (Calendar Year)

Unit:  SUNY ESF’s Ranger School in Wanakena, NY

Professional Rank and Salary Range:  SL-2; $46,000 + DOQ

Location: Syracuse, NY

Description of Duties:

This is a full-time appointment in the A.A.S. programs of SUNY ESF’s Ranger School at Wanakena, NY.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities include Ranger School Instructional Support (60%) and IT Support (40%):

Instructional Support to A.A.S. programs (60%): Reporting to the Ranger School Director, the ISA provides instructional support to Ranger School faculty and tutoring support to students. Responsibilities include: provide tutoring support to students in math and technical writing both during and outside of class hours; assist faculty/students in computer-focused courses such as geographic information systems (GIS) and database management; collaborate with other instructional support staff to ensure faculty needs are met including field activity preparation, grading student work, direct supervision of students during lab and field activities, and helping to ensure student safety in our heavily field-oriented programs; provide student support with ArcSurvey 123, Avenza, and other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and field data collection technologies; provide instructional support as needed and as aligned with education and expertise.
Programmer/Analyst for Northern Properties (40%): Reporting to the Supervisor of Computing and Network Services, the Programmer/Analyst provides desktop computer and centrally maintained systems support for students, faculty and staff.  Responsibilities include: assist with public teaching/open computing lab maintenance, administration, and support; resolve student network connection issues; assist faculty and staff in resolving hardware, software and network problems; and administer/troubleshoot user accounts, disk/print quotas and computers within Active Directory. Duty stations include Wanakena Campus, Newcomb Campus, and Thousand Islands Biological Station.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor degree or higher in forestry, natural resources management, environmental science, land surveying, or other related natural resource field
One year experience in a natural resources management, environmental science, land surveying technology or related field is required
One year experience working with computing and network systems
Experience supporting Windows 10 and MacOS/OS X in networked environments
Experience configuring wired and wireless network connections and demonstrated knowledge of common computing hardware and software
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience
Demonstrated ability to tutor math concepts including trigonometry
Help Desk experience in higher education
Experience in editing and technical communications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with ESRI products including ArcGIS Pro
Supervisory experience
