Lecturer, International Environmental Policy, Non-Tenure Track

Loyola University Chicago (LUC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching faculty position in International Environmental Policy, beginning in August 2022. This hire is part of a university-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding teachers and researchers who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e. working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position is a joint appointment in the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) and the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The successful candidate will start at the rank of Lecturer in a 3-year, renewable position beginning in August 2022. Opportunities for promotion exist in accordance with the SES non-tenure track promotion guidelines. We seek candidates with expertise in international environmental policy, governance, and/or law who can teach Global Environmental Politics and additional courses that support our undergraduate curricula in Environmental Policy, Environmental Studies, Global Studies, and Peace Studies. Opportunities to teach graduate courses also exist within our M.S. of Environmental Science and Sustainability as well as the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Political Science. The new School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) is growing quickly and currently serves 380 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. It is housed within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex containing a 3,100 sq ft greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching & research labs, environmental analytical lab, ecotoxicology lab, a GIS Lab, and a ‘green’ dormitory. The university prioritizes sustainability with 13 energy efficient LEED certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying the LUC Farmer’s Market. The Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus (LUREC) has a wetland restoration project in a 20-acre wetland, a 5-acre organic farm, and is a venue for three-week summer field courses and for faculty and student research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland restoration. The SES faculty is organized within 5 affinity groups that reflect its strengths in research, teaching, and community engagement: Biodiversity, Environment and Society, Environmental Health and Toxicology, Sustainable Food Systems, and Climate and Energy.
