The Department of English, Languages, and Linguistics at Gordon College invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of First-Year Writing. Teaching requirements will be in both first-year writing and upper-level literature courses. Position to begin August 2024. Rank will be commensurate with experience.
Gordon’s first-year writing course is known as “The Great Conversation;” this course also serves as the College’s first-year seminar. The program employs adjunct faculty, as well as students who serve as peer mentors in each class.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the first-year writing program, to include:
- Updating and revising the curriculum;
- Scheduling;
- Hiring and supporting part-time faculty;
- Hiring and training student peer mentors;
- Serving on the first-year experience committee;
- Teach literature courses in the English major, with a focus on British Literature after 1700 OR contemporary literature; and
- Serve as an academic advisor for English majors and minors.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD in English Literature or Rhetoric and Composition;
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching in both composition and literature;
- Experience teaching and working administratively in a composition program;
- Personal commitment to Christianity, the Christian mission of the College, and the integration of faith and learning;
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty colleagues and other campus stakeholders;
- An active research program; and
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the context of Christian higher education.
