Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor in Literacy
Position Begin Date: August 2022
Position Summary: The Department of Teacher Education and Professional Development at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant/associate professor effective August, 2022. Tenure-track faculty are generally expected to teach three courses per semester, maintain an active research agenda, and actively participate in service activities. Courses may be face-to-face, hybrid, hyflex, or online at the undergraduate or graduate level. Faculty may also: advise students; engage in program assessment; help develop and promote CMU’s TEPD course offerings; direct The Literacy Center; and strengthen partnerships on and off campus.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in education with an emphasis in reading/literacy studies and have completed at least three years of successful teaching at the PK-6 school level. A doctorate is required; however, an ABD will be considered if it is clear the degree will be conferred by the time of the appointment. Candidates applying for associate professor must provide documentation of successful experience teaching literacy in higher education. Candidates must have specialized knowledge in PK-6 literacy assessment and instruction. Candidates applying for the position must show documentation of scholarship appropriate for the rank and possess effective written and oral communication skills. The position requires maintenance of scholarly research and publications, service to the university and PK-12 schools, and effective teaching and advising at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred credentials include the ability to integrate instructional technology and topics and pedagogies associated with diversity and equity into teaching and student learning; successful experience teaching literacy in higher education for the associate rank; grant writing and literacy clinic experience.
