Job Description

The Film and Media Arts Division in the School of Communication at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment for the Academic Year 2023-24. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment is a 9-month position, with the possibility of renewal, and will commence on August 28, 2023.

Applicants should hold an MFA and/or equivalent professional experience. The position will require the incumbent to teach three courses per semester in Film and Media Arts, including, but not limited to, undergraduate and graduate courses. These may include introductory courses in film and video including Visual Literacy, (design basics, photography, video production, and portfolio design). All faculty hold office hours weekly and participate in school and university activities and service.

We are looking for candidates whose research and teaching embody the perspective of a nontraditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of those underrepresented in the profession and higher education. We seek an instructor with at least three years of practice in the filmmaking profession or related fields, who are proficient in all aspects of media creation, including producing and directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, sound recording, and postproduction.
