Drake University’s Department of Music is excited to launch a search for an Assistant Professor of Music Education, full-time, tenure-track appointment, beginning August 2023. The successful candidate will coordinate and oversee the comprehensive Music Education program, serving as liaison between the Department of Music and the School of Education. Salary is competitive. What to Expect: Teaching duties assigned, commensurate with the candidate’s expertise, to include:
- An introduction to music education class, elementary and/or secondary choral or instrumental music education methods courses, and a measurement and evaluation course.
- Supervising student teachers.
- Recruiting and advising music education students.
- Developing, assessing, and revising the curriculum.
Who Should Apply? Candidates with:
- A demonstrated ability to cultivate collegiality and to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
- A drive and evidence of the pursuit of scholarly activities (including writing, or professional presentations) and service opportunities in professional organizations.
- A desire to build and maintain positive relationships with area educators including participating in the statewide music education community.
- Demonstrable knowledge of music education technologies.
- Exhibiting interest, experience, and success working with diverse students and colleagues.
What You Will Need to Apply: Those with a Ph.D. or ABD and a required minimum of 3 years public school teaching experience are welcome to apply. The Doctorate is required by the time of appointment.
