TENURE TRACK POSITION IN DANCE
Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure track dance position at the rank of assistant professor, which will begin July 1, 2023. The Scripps Dance program has two full-time faculty and several part-time instructors. It offers a B.A. degree with a major or minor in Dance. All Scripps Dance classes strive to place course material in its socio-cultural and historic context.
The department seeks a contemporary dance artist with embodied expertise in a non-western dance form to teach dance practice courses and dance composition. The preferred candidate will also have experience in at least one of the following areas: somatics, critical dance studies, or dance technologies. The candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to fostering equity and inclusivity in their teaching, and an ability to make cross-disciplinary connections in their course content.
Additional responsibilities include producing dance concerts, advising senior thesis projects, participating in the college’s Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, serving as department chair in rotation with other fulltime faculty upon completion of third year contract renewal, and contributing to college governance.
The successful candidate will hold an MFA or PhD in Dance or related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching technique and choreography from a critical perspective, and the experience to direct written work. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the College’s goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students.
Applicants are invited to submit the following materials online at http://apply.interfolio.com/110617: cover letter, CV, brief choreography statement with media links of the candidate’s work, names of three professional references, a separate statement addressing how the candidate has contributed to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion through their work, and a teaching statement with media link that demonstrates the candidate’s teaching of physical practice.
Review of applications will begin November 11, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
For further information, please call (909) 607-2934.
