Job Description
The CSI Library is located on the first floor of the GRM (Gerald R. Meyerhoeffer Building), a relatively new (built in 1996) 24,000 square foot modern facility, which houses the various collections, the main student computer lab, Classroom 101, study rooms, a quiet study room, the Eagle’s Perch lounge, and the special collections room.
The Library mainly serves the needs of CSI students (both on-campus and off-campus/distance), faculty, staff, and administration. Some students taking classes from the four-year universities that offer courses/degrees on the CSI campus also use various library services (mostly reserves and interlibrary loan). The Library is also open to community members (to browse the collection, read magazines, login to the computers with guest login, and check out materials if they have a courtesy library card). Electronic resources can only be accessed by CSI students, faculty, staff and administration (per license agreements with various vendors).
The Library’s collection includes books, reference works, journals and magazines, DVDs, music CDs, maps and pamphlets. Currently registered students, College of Southern Idaho faculty, and college staff maintain borrowing privileges at the library. Any adult who is a permanent resident of the Magic Valley may purchase a one-year courtesy card at the front desk. The Library is open to all visitors for reference use.
The CSI Library is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), Idaho Library Association (ILA), OCLC Western Service Center, Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA), Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS), LOEX, Pacific Northwest Library Association (PNLA), and COSUGI/Symphony. The library offers many electronic resources and services, including: e-books, online journals, downloadable audiobooks, Playaways, etc.
This position manages the creation and enrichment of metadata representing the Libraries’ digital and physical collections and other materials. The Cataloging/Metadata Librarian will perform original cataloging and catalog maintenance in all formats in a mixed RDA/AACR2 environment using the MARC standard and may work with other metadata standards and schemas (e.g. BIBFRAME) as the need arises. Key responsibilities include:
Applies metadata to library and other materials records according to library designated standards with understanding of system capabilities and implications; materials may include print, microform, and electronic resources
Contributes to original, copy, and batch cataloging
Contributes to database maintenance efforts to identify and correct error in bibliographic records and to process authority record control
Keeps abreast of emerging trends, innovations and best practices affecting library systems and catalogs, and of methods of electronic resources management and metadata standards
Uses available tools, including MarcEdit and OCLC Connexion Client, to implement changes and enhancements to Sierra
Works the Circulation Desk 10% of scheduled hours
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of A.A. degree in Library Science or similar field plus experience cataloging
Knowledge and understanding of 2017 ALCTS Core Competencies for Cataloging and Metadata Professional Librarians
Knowledge and understanding of library-based descriptive standards and specialized rules (e.g. RDA)
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of recent developments and emerging trends in technical services and academic research libraries, including familiarity with the use of linked data and future implementation of BIBFRAME by libraries
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing and professionally diverse environment

This position has a proposed starting salary of $40,000+benefits.
