Assistant Professor, Cinema Studies

Assistant Professor, Cinema Studies. Tenure-track, full-time, 9-months. Start date: August 10, 2022.

We seek a humanities-based teacher-scholar with an active research program, strong pedagogical skills, and the ability to teach Introduction to Cinema as well as upper-division Cinema courses that reflect their specific research interests. Housed in the School of Performing Arts (Music, Theatre, Cinema, and Dance), Cinema is a young and growing program that combines cinema studies and production.

The successful candidate will have: demonstrated scholarly potential; a deep knowledge of cinema history; the ability to address questions of diversity, equity, and social justice and to effectively teach the impacts and consequences of the art of cinema on society, culture, and identity.

Responsibilities include: 2 courses per semester; recruiting, mentoring, and advising undergraduate Cinema majors; development of Cinema curriculum.

Additional opportunities for teaching and research include cross-disciplinary collaboration with colleagues within and beyond the School of Performing Arts: Music, Theatre, Cinema, and Dance.

Required qualifications:

• Ph.D. in cinema, film, cultural studies, or a closely-related field.
• A demonstrated commitment to scholarship.
• A record of successful teaching at the university level.
• The ability to integrate multicultural and contemporary perspectives into the curriculum.

Preferred qualifications:

• Evidence of vision and leadership in program development.
• Ability and willingness to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries.
