Description of Work
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position is responsible for advising and teaching specialized undergraduate and graduate courses, and may serve as practicum coordinator within respiratory care programs and have the potential to become the BSRT Program Coordinator.. The successful candidate will provide professional service and contribute to the University’s Diversity Plan. The successful candidate for this position will engage in high-quality teaching and will participate in departmental governance, research and scholarship, and service activities.

Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
A doctoral degree in a related field from an accepted institutional accredited college or university. Clinical expertise in adult critical care, neonatal/pediatric critical care, sleep, or asthma education and credentials in the area of expertise (e.g., NPS, ACCS, CPFT/RPFT, SDS/RPSGT, AE-C, etc). Experience with distance education instruction. Demonstrated scholarship activity (e.g., record of success in professional journal publications, abstract poster presentations, and other professional presentations).

Required Qualifications:   Masters required in respiratory care, health science, education, or a related discipline from an accepted institutional accredited college or university. Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an RRT, physician (MD or DO), or physician assistant of which at least two (2) years must include experience in clinical respiratory care, pulmonary medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, anesthesiology, healthcare administration, or healthcare research. An active practitioner license or eligible to obtain a license in North Carolina. Minimum of two years of teaching experience in clinical respiratory care, research, management, or education.

Necessary Licenses/Certifications
National Board for Respiratory Care Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is required.

Active Respiratory Care Practitioner License or eligible to receive a license in North Carolina is required.

Advanced National Board for Respiratory Care Credentials are preferred but not required.
