Job Description

The focus of the Director of the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will be centered around providing leadership to carry out the mission of the Center and overseeing day-to-day operations. In consultation with campus leadership, it is our intention to rename the Center in the coming months to more directly reflect our commitment to inclusive teaching. The new leader will be key to this transformation.

The CTL is a partnership among IUPUI’s Academic Affairs, University Information Technology Services, and University Library.

The mission of the CTL is to advance excellence in teaching practices and professional growth among all members of the campus teaching community to enhance student learning and success.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes critical strategic and operational goals that enhance student learning and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Provides vision and leadership for the Center for Teaching and Learning to assure that inclusive practices permeate all programs and practices.
  • Manages day-to-day operations the of CTL including convening staff meetings, overseeing program and event planning, and overall planning and coordination of staff supervision and performance appraisals.
  • Oversees prudent use of the budget and seeks external funding possibilities.
  • Plans teaching support services and programs that support student learning and persistence to graduation.
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates CTL programs and events aligned with the CTL mission and IUPUI strategic plan.

This position will be filled either as a faculty or a staff position depending on the training and experience of the successful candidate. While the position itself is not a tenure track position, we encourage existing Indiana University tenure track and non tenure track faculty to apply.

Basic Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Professional development experience in a postsecondary teaching center.
  • Organizational, interpersonal and management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Appreciation and advocacy for diversity and inclusion in all aspects of professional development for faculty.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory and administrative experience in higher education.
  • Record of publication and participation in national organizations on teaching in higher education.
  • External funding experience.

Candidates for this position are expected to be well-versed in:

  • Innovative teaching approaches, e.g. inclusive classroom practices, collaborative learning, problem-based learning, case study method, and writing to learn.
  • Use, implementation, and best practices for instructional technologies such as course management systems, web, instructional multimedia, electronic conferencing, simulations, classroom presentations, etc.
  • Synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning.
  • Learning and program assessment strategies.
  • Strategies for organizational development, such as needs analysis or climate surveying, program consultation, reward systems, group, and team building, building a climate of diversity, equity and inclusion and the influence of environmental factors on teaching and learning.
