Job Description

Gordon College is establishing a School of Business, and we are seeking the right individuals to join our growing faculty team! The School offers majors in accounting, business management, economics, finance, marketing, digital marketing and communications, business analytics, entrepreneurship and innovation, and sport management. Our small classes and active community allow faculty to develop strong relationships with students and colleagues. We seek an individual who exhibits excellence in the practice of sport management, is a committed Christian, and is passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of Christian business leaders.

Located on Boston’s North Shore, a beautiful coastal area with classic New England towns and easy access to the Boston area, Gordon College is a vibrant Christian community committed to the liberal arts. We strive to foster conversation at the intersection of faith and cultural engagement in a wide variety of disciplines, all with the mission to prepare Christian men and women to actively participate in every community in which they find themselves.

Gordon College invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Associate or Full Professor in the Practice of Sport Management. The position is a three-year, non-tenure track, renewable appointment. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The position will begin in August 2024, with flexibility for an earlier start as soon as May 2024.

This position offers the opportunity for the right individual to play a significant role in developing and leading the new undergraduate major in sport management. Curriculum planning and development will be part of the candidate’s leadership responsibilities. Principal teaching responsibilities will include courses such as sport finance, sport marketing, sport law, sport governance, management of sport organizations, and others related to the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will help to facilitate internship opportunities for sport management students and participate in other associated service activities. The candidate will also advise sport management undergraduate students.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate a dynamic Christian faith;
  • Have an advanced degree in sport management or a related field;
  • Have significant experience working in the sport industry in a managerial capacity and plans for continuing contributions to practice;
  • Excel at teaching and show passion for mentoring sport management students; and
  • Show a commitment to nurturing and promoting diversity in their professional communities.

Interested applicants must submit:

  • A cover letter that addresses the applicant’s interest in the specific position and fit with the Christian mission of Gordon College;
  • A CV that includes the names and contact information of three references; and
  • A statement of teaching philosophy.
