Provost and Senior Vice President
Fielding Graduate University is a accredited nonprofit leader in graduate education for adult learners. The Position
Fielding, an innovator in graduate distributed education for adult learners, seeks candidates who bring a record of distinguished scholarship as well as a keen knowledge of higher education to the position of Provost and Senior Vice President (“Provost”). As chief academic officer, Fielding’s Provost is the university champion for the heart of our work, that learning environment(s) that are created by our faculty and students. We aspire to academic excellence in all things and this position is the driving force that connects all of the Fielding community to the University’s mission and values. In addition, the Provost is a pivotal leader in university governance, collaborating closely with the Senate Leadership Committee in Fielding’s shared governance structure.
The incumbent will lead efforts to strengthen vibrant, relevant, growing, and financially successful academic programs, with the explicit charge to uphold the university’s core commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In collaboration with colleagues, the Provost fosters faculty and student diversity, and develops and defines structures that support graduate students’ successful completion of Fielding’s programs. The Provost also leads the development, oversight, evaluation, and improvement of all academic programs.
This position includes fundraising, such as for scholarships and grants, as well as promoting development by initiating articulation agreements and international partnerships, and developing and acquiring new programs. In this respect, the Provost plays a major role in financial planning for the University, including budget creation, management, and strategy. The Provost’s academic team is comprised of the Associate Provosts and Deans.

Location: Remote
Enrollment: 1,000 students in doctoral, master’s, and post-baccalaureate certificate programs
Accreditation: WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), American Psychological Association
Salary: Depending on qualifications
Travel: Travel required to SB and DC locations, in person session attendance, and as required by the President (Board meetings, fundraising, as examples)
Qualifications
Education: An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in the social or behavioral sciences, or educational degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or its equivalent.
Experience: At least twelve years of experience that includes a combination of:
• teaching and scholarship at the doctoral level
• experience as a faculty member; in shared governance leadership a plus
• teaching adult learners
• teaching and/or leading in a distributed environment
• senior leadership experience in higher education
• a proven history of success with regional and program accreditation

Fielding begins contributing a percentage of salary to a 403(b) account after employee has completed one year of service, with no match required. Eligible employees may participate in an individual 403(b) Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity retirement plan upon hire.
