Job Description

The Department of Psychological Science at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a full-time, tenured faculty position in psychology. The position will be at the rank of Associate to Full Professor and includes the expectation that the candidate will direct the UCI Institute for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research (IISBR) (http://iisbr.uci.edu/). IISBR is a research institute dedicated to advancing knowledge of biobehavioral processes for health and recovery from illness with a focus on the empirical, clinical, and applied potential of non-invasive biomarkers measured with high ecological validity. IISBR seeks to build and maintain collaborative scientific programs to evaluate and translate the value of biomarkers to improve individual and community health; provide specialized training, education, and consultation in the use and translation of salivary bioscience; and to enable access to laboratory services for the assessment of salivary and other complementary biomarkers.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field. We welcome applications from candidates whose scholarship has a strong emphasis on the use of biomarkers to address theory-driven questions that contribute to the department’s specializations in health psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, or social/personality psychology. Applications are encouraged from candidates who can lead efforts in biomarker discovery and measurement. The ideal candidate will have experience directing a wet lab or core assay facility. Applicants should have an outstanding record of research, an excellent record of extramural funding, evidence of excellent teaching and mentoring, and commitment to diversity.

Priority will be given to applications received by December 2, 2022; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Application materials must be submitted electronically (please refer to the Employment link at the following website for instructions: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07760). Candidates should submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, and statements of research and teaching interests. References will be requested at a later stage in the search process. A separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion must also be included in the application materials. Qualified applicants must have the demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues and to teach and mentor a diverse student body. Please direct confidential inquiries to the search chair, Dr. Julian Thayer at jfthayer@uci.edu; additional questions can be directed to Diane Enriquez at d.enriquez@uci.edu.
