Job Description

The School of Communication at American University invites applications for a one-year, full-time term faculty appointment at the rank of Professorial Lecturer in the Communication Studies division beginning August 29, 2022.

Our ideal candidate will be an emerging scholar in communication studies or related field with methodological expertise in quantitative, data analytical, mixed, and/or emerging technologically mediated methods. The candidate’s work should focus on some intersection of big data and digital media, such as: media, technology and democracy; race and identity; political communication; science and health communication; or related field. Our ideal candidate will be a strong teacher with an authentic commitment to inclusive excellence in the classroom. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, Science and Technology Studies, or a related field. The School of Communication seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion of those historically underrepresented individuals in higher education. Women, underrepresented individuals and people with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

The position will require the incumbent to teach three undergraduate or graduate courses per semester, including, but not limited to data methods classes. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service. The Communication Studies division of the School of Communication houses our doctoral program in communication and our MA in media, technology and democracy.

Salary is competitive.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled, subject to on-going budgetary approval.  Please submit applications via: https://apply.interfolio.com/106373.  Include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, recent teaching evaluations, recent published paper, and a statement of past and/or future contributions to diversity and inclusion through teaching, research, and service. Please contact Aisha Green, Faculty Coordinator, 202-885-2133 or aisha@american.edu if you have any questions.
