Assistant Professor, Chemistry, UC Clermont

UC Clermont College provides student-centered undergraduate education in an open-access, regional college environment. We foster diversity as well as intellectual, cultural, and social development in our community.  UC Clermont College has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students and is located in Batavia, Ohio, twenty miles east of the University of Cincinnati’s downtown campus.  We offer a variety of associate’s degrees, two-year technical degrees and certificates, and prepare students for transition or transfer into baccalaureate degree programs. To this end, the Science & Health Department at UC Clermont College seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Chemistry at the level of Assistant Professor.  The position will begin August 15, 2022, unless otherwise indicated.

Tenure-track faculty responsibilities include the following:

• Teaching twelve (12) credit-hours for each of two primary semesters (Fall and Spring), including lectures and labs during day, and possibly evenings as needed.
• Scheduling a minimum of four office hours per week,
• Participating in ongoing scholarship/research, and
• Participating in service to the department, college, university, and community.

All candidates must demonstrate/provide evidence of effective teaching and professional development and must have appropriate degrees awarded by the time of appointment.

Position Description: Selected candidates should expect to focus on teaching first year chemistry courses, including non-majors’ courses, but may be asked to teach other courses included in the chemistry curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry and one (1) year college-level teaching experience as the primary instructor. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high academic standards while encouraging and supporting students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and aptitudes.

Ideal Qualifications:  Experience in undergraduate research, experience in use of innovative instructional technologies, and at least two (2) years teaching chemistry in an institution where students have varied interests, degrees of preparation, and aptitude.
