Job Description

Management/Leadership in Kinesiology

The School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University promotes the benefits of physical activity and sport to society by providing a multidisciplinary approach to discovery, dissemination, and application of related knowledge and outcomes. The School of Kinesiology is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community where members from all backgrounds can live, learn, and thrive together. We work towards constructing a dynamic, supportive space that integrates principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, and accessibility among all members. Kinesiology is home to the International Centre for Olympic (including Paralympic Studies), and the Sport and Social Impact Research Group. Kinesiology at Western is ranked 26th in the world for Sport Related Subjects (QS 2023). The School of Kinesiology champions three research clusters focusing on Physical Activity and 1) Brain Health, 2) Mobility, and 3) Social Impact with strong links to Faculty research Centres in Activity and Aging, and Health Equity and Social Inclusion.

We are seeking a Probationary (tenure-track) at the rank of Assistant Professor or tenured colleague at the rank of Associate Professor in Management/Leadership in Kinesiology. The successful candidate will contribute to the vision of the school to be a global leader in inclusive excellence in research and education through a multidisciplinary approach to Kinesiology. Candidates whose research and teaching focuses on management areas of sport marketing, sport leadership, organizational behaviour, organizational theory, sport for development, and/or event management are encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses while also developing new courses in the School that extend the curriculum. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community.

The Faculty of Health Sciences values diversity and is committed to equity and inclusion. The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience and capacity to substantively contribute to an inclusive and diverse academic community. We encourage applications from all qualified persons, particularly those from equity deserving groups, including but not limited to racialized minority, indigenous, and LGBTQ+ applicants.

Candidates must either hold, or be within four months of completing, a PhD in Kinesiology, or a related field, have demonstrated potential for excellence in research, with a strong potential to secure external research funding. The scholar’s research and teaching should also be aligned with one or more of the Faculty of Health Sciences research Centres/Groups. Western’s research leads to a fuller understanding of how intersecting variables of power shape individuals and groups, cultures, ways of knowing, and challenges for social justice and change which transform the norms and forms of domination. The ideal candidate will have experience in interdisciplinary environments, and knowledge of teaching diverse groups. The candidate will ideally have experience with traditional and flexible learning environments. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in relevant service to the School of Kinesiology and University.
