Job Description:

 

Western Illinois University seeks a collaborative, innovative, and dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Justice, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity. The position, which reports to the President, will be responsible for strengthening and advancing the University’s commitment to being a just, inclusive, diverse, and equitable institution. The Director will actively engage with the University’s students, faculty, staff, and administration to carry out the responsibilities of the position, including regular reports to the President and Senior Leadership Team on the status of JIDE initiatives and impact.

 

The Director of JIDE will possess a comprehensive understanding of the key issues affecting justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity; lead and oversee the University’s diversity plan; and shape and implement appropriate strategies, policies, and procedures for the Office. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, vision and direction for the University’s efforts to achieve inclusive excellence. The position will help foster a diverse, just, accessible and equitable campus environment. In addition to having overall organizational and operational responsibility for JIDE, the Director will work collaboratively with university partners to develop and monitor student and staff diversity strategies.

 

The Director will also create and deliver educational workshops, programing, training, and tools to further support faculty, staff, and students in achieving a greater understanding of issues pertaining to JIDE. The selected candidate will be an effective communicator, and will provide information, direction, and support for new programing, as well as continue educating the campus community about the importance of institutional JIDE initiatives.

 

APPOINTMENT: August 1, 2022 or negotiated start date.

 

COMPENSATION: A competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be provided to the successful candidate.

Requirements:

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Master’s degree, preferably in equity and diversity, social justice, cultural diversity, or a field closely related to the position.

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity, preferably in a higher education setting.

• Demonstrated understanding of legal, compliance and training issues related to justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity work.

• Possession of outstanding listening and communication skills with the ability to bring individuals and groups with diverse perspectives to consensus and common action.

• Ability to formulate, communicate, and implement a clear justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity vision.

• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing diversification of faculty, staff, and the student body.

• Knowledge of current issues and trends in justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience as a leader or member of a team, task force, or committee.

• Experience with strategic planning processes.

• Demonstrated success in partnering with community members towards efforts that advance justice, inclusion, diversity, and equity.

• Experience managing conflict and building consensus.

 

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

There are more than 200 student organizations at Western that provide social, academic, recreation, sports, service, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more. The University’s athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
