Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Understanding Detroit

The Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University seeks to fill the Understanding Detroit Postdoctoral Fellowship position for the 2022-2023 academic year. This is a three-year position which can transition to a tenure-track position after the second or third year. The successful candidate will show exceptional promise in scholarship or creative activities along with a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent work on urban themes with the assistance of a mentoring team, as well as support from the Honors College and the Wayne State academic departments that most closely fit their disciplinary specialization. Fellows will participate in the Wayne State Pathway to Faculty Program to ensure a successful transition to a tenure-track position.

In addition to their research, the postdoctoral fellow will assist with projects that enhance teaching in the (Honors 1000: Changing Detroit) and to teach one Foundational Seminar (HON 2000), Field Learning Course (HON 3000), or junior/senior seminar (Honors 42XX) on a topic related to the city of Detroit during each academic year. Scholarly and teaching activities that engage with the community are strongly desirable.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or other terminal degree (such as a J.D. or M.F.A.) is required at the time of appointment. While we recognize that scholarship from many disciplines can illuminate Detroit, we are particularly interested in candidates from the arts, humanities, and social sciences, including history, philosophy, political science, sociology, anthropology, literature, fine arts, and related fields.
