The Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in the field of host-pathogen interactions. The applicant will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded, nationally recognized research program. Potential areas of research include host-pathogen interactions in natural hosts or animal models with an emphasis on bacteriology, parasitology, prion biology, virology, or immunology at any relevant scale, from molecules to populations. Minimum requirements for an assistant professor include a PhD, two years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in a relevant field, and evidence of potential for developing a nationally recognized research program.

There are excellent opportunities for the new faculty to complement the existing strengths in infectious disease, pathology, oncology, and translational research in the School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Medicine and Public Health, Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, Influenza Research Institute, Midwest Center of Excellence for Vector-borne Disease, Global Health Institute, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, USGS National Wildlife Health Center, Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, and Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, among others.

Participation in departmental and university service and commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment are expected. Salary and start-up packages will be commensurate with the rank and experience of the selected individual.

The Department is one of four within the School of Veterinary Medicine and consists of 27 faculty members with expertise in infectious diseases (immunology, parasitology, vector biology, bacteriology, virology, epidemiology, and public health) and comparative pathology (anatomic and clinical). Faculty within the School participate in training graduate students in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences and other campus graduate programs. They also serve as trainers on a variety of NIH training grants administered through the School or other units on campus. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a top-tier institution with an international reputation for basic, applied, and interdisciplinary research. UW-Madison regularly ranks in the top 5 among U.S. universities in overall research funding, surpassing $1.3 billion in annual research expenditures. The campus embraces a culture of collaboration, collegiality and inclusion, and the exceptionally high quality of life offered by Madison, Wisconsin provides an outstanding environment in which to pursue an academic career.
