We invite applicants with a research focus in any area of immunology using a relevant study system. The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant cell, molecular, and microbiology curriculum by teaching both introductory and upper-level courses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Ph.D. by August 21, 2023 and demonstrated interest in joining a department that values excellence in teaching undergraduates, collaborative research with undergraduates, and engagement in inclusion and diversity efforts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level utilizing innovative methods of instruction
  • Experience mentoring students in research
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$66,000.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach both introductory and upper-level biology courses for majors (such as Foundations of Biology I and Cell & Molecular Biology) as well as offer upper-level coursework related to their expertise (such as Immunology). The candidate will also have opportunities to develop additional courses that enhance our curriculum. The teaching commitment is approximately 12 contact hours per week. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduate students, provide academic advising to students (in collaboration with Advising, Retention, and Career Center) and engage in service to the Department, College, University, profession and/or community. Opportunities also exist for contribution to collaborative and growing interdisciplinary high impact experiences among STEM departments as well as collaboration with Mayo Clinic Health System partners.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Biology currently has 15 faculty, 3 instructors, a lab manager, a greenhouse/animal care manager, and approximately 700 students involved in Biology-affiliated majors (Biology, Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Ecology and Environmental Biology). Department members are dedicated to teaching and are actively involved in research with undergraduates as demonstrated by co-authored presentations and publications. The Department works closely with the Health Careers Center on campus to support the advancement of pre-professional and professional health science students and programs. UW-Eau Claire’s research agreement with Mayo Clinic includes funding for collaborative research projects involving our faculty and students.

Departmental facilities include a variety of teaching and research laboratories appropriate for BSL-2 procedures, standard cell and molecular instrumentation, equipment and facilities for cell culture, gel and blot documentation systems, a real-time PCR system, a flow cytometer, shared access to conventional and confocal fluorescence microscopes and transmission and scanning electron microscopes, and access to the UW-Eau Claire high performance supercomputing cluster. In addition, we have an animal care facility and three greenhouses.

Research is supported by competitive start-up packages as well as both external and internal grants through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. We participate in the Ronald McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program as well as other initiatives to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion.  Internal funds are also available to support summer research stipends and travel to professional meetings for both students and faculty mentors. Each member of the department also receives annual allocations of endowed funds for professional development and/or research expenses.
