Position description

Applications are invited for one full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Finance, position number 128550. The position is available with an August 2024 start date. Primary teaching duties will be undergraduate and graduate courses in Finance (face-to-face and online), especially courses associated with personal financial planning, and other finance-related courses to adequately provide a good foundation in finance and to prepare students for other classes within the department and the College of Business. This position will teach three classes each fall and spring with a possible teaching assignment in the summer. This faculty member will maintain his/her professional affiliations and contribute to professional activities. This position will mentor students and provide advice on professional endeavors.

 

The University of West Florida, located in Pensacola, FL, primarily emphasizes quality teaching. In addition, faculty members are expected to publish in quality refereed journals, maintain AACSB academic qualifications, perform career and academic counseling, and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. This position may require teaching at the nearby Fort Walton Beach campus of the university (approximately 50 miles east of the Pensacola campus). Opportunities for summer teaching are normally available. Salary is AACSB competitive and will be commensurate with experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications

·       Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.

 

Position Qualifications

·       Doctoral degree from an AACSB-accredited institution in Finance or a closely-related field, including at least 18 graduate semester hours in Finance and a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.

·       Pertinent work experience, continuing professional development, and an active research agenda to maintain qualifications for performing teaching assignments.

·       Relevant teaching experience, including proven effectiveness in online course development and teaching.

·       Evidence of potential for quality scholarship, including publication in qualifying academic journals.

·Must meet the requirements outlined in the College of Business Policy on Faculty Qualifications for an assistant professor position.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       Doctoral degree in Finance from an AACSB-accredited institution or a closely-related field, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Finance. Regardless of degree, it must be coupled with pertinent work experience, continuing professional development, and a robust research agenda.

·       Strong preference for candidates with coursework or work experience in the personal financial planning-related topics. Teaching experience and/or scholarship regarding financial planning topics are desirable.

·       In lieu of the above preferred qualifications, the candidate should possess a willingness to pursue an advanced credential in personal financial planning, such as a certificate in financial planning.

·       Solid commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.

·       Preferred candidates will also have relevant teaching experience, to include proven effectiveness in online course development and teaching.
