The University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking candidates for Chair of the Department of Biochemistry. The Chair will guide the mission and vision of the department. The position is full-time and tenured with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2024. This position has an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30].

The Department of Biochemistry is an integral part of a vigorous research community and has outstanding research and training programs, including participation in undergraduate and graduate programs. From its rich history in the study of the structure and function of proteins and the mechanisms of enzyme action, the department now addresses many new areas including developmental biology; neural circuits; molecular mechanisms of aging; vertebrate visual and immune responses; chromosome dynamics, cell division, DNA replication and repair; energy transduction during photosynthesis; protein secretion and membrane fusion; translational control and regulated protein degradation; protein structure determination by crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and NMR spectroscopy; and protein structure prediction and design.

Other Compensation: Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as chair.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Biochemistry or a related biomedical discipline. An MD (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable. Applicants must also have demonstrated academic leadership skills and an active internationally recognized research program in biochemistry.
