University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc.

The University of Tennessee Foundation (UTFI) seeks to fill a position of Assistant or Associate Director of Development for UT Knoxville Athletics.  The Assistant/Associate/Director seeks to build and develop credible & sustainable relationships to generate financial support for the Tennessee Athletics Department through the discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors by additionally traveling the state of Tennessee and other regions assigned in search of those willing to participate and financially support the University of Tennessee Athletics Department. This position will attend athletic events, donor receptions and other department functions.  The first-year expectation is that the qualified and highly motivated individual would maintain at least 200 meaningful visits and secure more than $1,000,000 of new revenue to benefit the University of Tennessee and the Athletics Department.  Breakdown of percentage of job responsibility below.

Identifies and qualifies new major gift Shareholders Society prospects through peer referencing and prospect research.  Working towards hitting both annual visit, attainment, and other gift officer metrics including occasional travel. (70%)

Attend and assist with athletic events, donor receptions and other department functions which will include nights and weekends. (15%)

Meets quarterly with specific sports as assigned to initiate and review their specific fundraising strategies. (10%)

Other duties as assigned related to athletics fundraising initiatives or activities of the advancement functions. (5%)

Qualifications:  A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s preferred.   Assistant Director – BS with 3 years of MS with 1 year of experience as listed below.  Associate Director – BS with 4 years or MS with 2 years of experience as listed below. Title will be determined based on qualifications and experience.   The ideal candidate will be highly supportive of and committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Salary is commensurate with experience. Minimum anticipated salary $60,000 for the Assistant Director title. Initial minimum salary increases at each title level dependent on education, experience and qualifications.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances.  In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Experience in development, marketing, or sales related field is required.  Intercollegiate athletics development experience along with management responsibilities is preferred. The ability and willingness to travel is required.

Skills:  Excellent computer, verbal and written communication, and demonstrated organizational skills necessary. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred. In addition, the position involves the need to be able to work independently, build relationships, and solicit gifts.
