The Gail and Francis Slattery Center for the Ignatian Humanities

 

Job Purpose:

 

The Executive Director is responsible for supporting and promoting all initiatives, programs, and events for the Gail & Francis Slattery Center for the Ignatian Humanities. The Executive Director will collaborate with faculty, staff and students to promote the Humanities at the University of Scranton, to ensure that the Humanities remain at the core of a University of Scranton education, and to develop resources for the Ignatian Humanities Center.

 

Essential Duties:

 

– Collaborate with faculty at the university and partners in the community to plan, organize, and promote discussion and initiatives for the humanities, including public lectures, performances, discussions, and screenings

 

– Work with faculty and the administration to develop, plan, implement, and promote all events sponsored by the Center, including the Humanities Forum

 

– Direct the Center’s faculty and student fellows, including the promotion of fellowships, selection process, and support of fellows throughout the academic year

 

-Lead fundraising activities for the Center in collaboration with University Advancement

and initiate endowment opportunities

 

– Recruit and provide logistical support for speakers, scholars, and artists at the Center

 

– Develop, maintain, and expand the Center’s media and social media presence and partnerships, and ensure Center is up to date

 

– Collaborate with the Deans to ensure that the Center remains a faculty and student-centered initiative

 

– Convene and support the faculty advisory group

 

– Manage and oversee any student workers and/or staff

 

– Promote the Center to the Scranton community and broader region

 

– Support working relationships with academic departments and other relevant University groups (Campus Ministry, Jesuit Center, performance music, Hope Horn Gallery, Special Collections/University Archives, etc.)

 

– Participate in Preview Day, Open House and other University recruitment activities

 

– Engage alumni in the Center’s events and fundraising

 

– Compose and distribute regular updates and coordinate special events for donors to the Center

 

– Compose an annual Center summary for the President, Provost, and Deans

 

Additional Skills Required:

 

– Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University’s Catholic and Jesuit Mission

 

– Understanding and experience with diversity, equity and inclusivity strategies in higher education

 

– Strong communication skills and ability to handle multiple tasks

 

– Experience fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages collegiality, teamwork, and relationship building both within the Center and across the University community

 

– Strong, interpersonal and organizational skills

 

– Ability to manage time effectively

 

– Ability to develop and execute strategies to most effectively cultivate and steward donors and volunteers

 

Minimum Education Requirements:

 

– Terminal/Doctoral degree is required

 

Preferred Education:

 

Minimum Job Experience Requirements:

 

– Must have experience in developing, coordinating, and/or implementing programs, events, and initiatives- Must have experience facilitating staff/faculty collaborations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

– Administrative experience in higher education is preferred

 

Schedule/Work Hours:

 

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional hours as required.
