The University of Pikeville’s College of Arts and Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment in the fields of criminal justice and sociology starting August 2023. Rank and salary will be based on qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to, and will take an active role in, enhancing diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

This position is for a broadly trained criminologist who is prepared to teach a range of courses in both criminal justice and sociology. Specializations are open, but the ideal applicant will have the ability to teach courses in corrections and/or the judicial system in addition to introductory level courses in both programs, complementing existing programmatic strengths.
- Ph.D. in criminology or sociology is preferred; candidates with doctorates. in closely related fields, ABD status and within one year of completion, or with master’s degrees and significant teaching experience will also be considered. The J.D. degree alone is not sufficient for this position.
- Professional experience, including experience in the correctional or judicial systems or in developing and maintaining community partnerships, is desired but not required and should be addressed in the cover letter.
- Undergraduate teaching experience is desired. In the application, candidates should address their approaches to/experiences with teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and their demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.
