Assistant/Associate Professor – Social and Cultural Foundations of Education
Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Instructional Technology, Foundations, Secondary Education (ITFSE) department, within the Watson College of Education (WCE) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for 9- month, full-time, tenure track faculty for the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Appointment to rank is dependent on qualifications relative to the university, college, and department policy. This position will begin August 2023.
Upon initial appointment, the successful candidate’s teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education. Additional responsibilities may include collaborating with colleagues to maintain and grow our WCE programs; collaborating with campus, community, and state education partners through community engaged scholarship and professional development; advising students; and participating in program development and accreditation processes.

Applicants for a senior appointment must have a substantial publication record, a current research agenda, a successful record of teaching, and evidence of faculty leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Applicants for this position must hold a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in an area of Social and Cultural Foundations of Education or a closely related field with a disciplinary background within the foundations (e.g., Cultural Anthropology of Education, Sociology of Education). ABD candidates may be considered depending on the expected completion date.
Demonstrated evidence of ways research, teaching, and service contribute to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
If the candidate is ABD, it is preferred that the terminal degree be in-hand by the beginning date of appointment.
Experience teaching Social and Cultural Foundations of Education or a related field within the foundations (e.g., Sociology of Education, Cultural Anthropology of Education) at university level.
Experience teaching in/working with underserved communities and diverse populations.
Demonstrated potential for building school and community partnerships.
Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience in face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning environments.
A focused program of research and scholarly activity.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership.
