Job Description

The Associate Director is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of Orientation programs for undergraduate students (first-year and transfer). In addition to planning, implementing, and supervising these programs, this individual will serve as the liaison between all colleges and service areas to determine orientation numbers, schedules, collaboration efforts and logistics. The Associate Director will serve on various committees and initiatives dealing with the transitional needs and creating unique orientation experiences for these populations and sub populations. This individual supervises the Assistant Director for Leadership, Training and Development, Program Coordinator for Orientation as well as student interns. This position also supports the director in providing vision and decisions on the leadership team in OTE in order to reach departmental goals.  This position reports to the Director of Orientation & Transition Experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of experience.
  • Previous experience with orientation, transition, or retention programming.
  • Previous experience with oversight of a small department or cross-disciplinary team.
  • Previous experience supervising professional and/or student staff.
  • Previous experience managing and implementing program logistics and operations.
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with multiple partners on multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion; working with units that provide support, access and equity and/or enhancing programmatic content to meet needs of students.
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of background verification with satisfactory results as required by law and University policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or other related areas.
  • Seven (7) years post masters experience planning, implementing and supervising first-year programs including the coordination of large-scale events, as well as working with the specific student populations.
  • Experience with diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice work.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide vision and direction to program content and delivery while managing/fostering a team.
  • Ability to work and communicate across organizational programs and priorities while seeking out campus experts in other functional areas.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions regarding programmatic efforts.
  • Experience in budget management including day-to-day as well as long-term, strategic budget planning.
  • Collaborative leader; promotes respect and inclusivity while managing conflict in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with various constituencies, including diverse populations.
  • Experience in developing emergency/crisis response procedures in alignment with department/University protocol.
  • Flexibility and adaptable to change

This position has the Academic Professional and Administrative (P&A) classification and is 100% time, 12-month annually renewable appointment.  Salary range is $65,000 – $67,000, is commensurate with experience, and includes a substantial benefits package.
