Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track)
The Division of Community Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the assistant clinical professor level to work with the DrPH in Leadership Program. This non-tenure track position reflects our commitment to advancing adaptive, equity-forward, anti-racist public health leaders capable of building the evidence-base in and with practice to create sustainable systems change. We have built a supportive, collaborative, and reflective environment of learning and innovation in an online format. The program is seeking to recruit a collaborative, innovative, practice-oriented faculty member committed to building a career at the intersection of scholarship and practice within the DrPH in Leadership Program. This position within the Division of Community Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health (SPH) is assigned solely to the DrPH in Leadership Program. The DrPH in Leadership doctoral degree program provides comprehensive public health leadership training, integrating current issues and approaches in public health leadership research, practice, and theory in an online program tailored to mid-career professionals, seeking to expand their knowledge, skills and practice of public health. We are seeking support for our efforts to infuse a focus on equity and anti-racism into our existing core competencies of systematic reflection, evidence-based practice, systems thinking, strategic management, and personal leadership. The DrPH in Leadership program has nearly 150 students, comprising annual cohorts of up to 25 students, with an average tenure of 4 to 5 years to completion. Program content and student support is delivered by a passionate, collaborative, practice-oriented team of 10 faculty, drawn from across all four SPH divisions.
This position is a 100% appointment dedicated to the DrPH in Leadership Program, with opportunity for grant or scholarship buy-out up to 30%. There is potential for this position to be fulfilled remotely with limited required travel to the Chicago area.
Position duties include: to develop and teach courses; mentor and advise students including serving as a dissertation chairperson; establish or continue an applied, practice-based, engaged, equity forward scholarship agenda; contribute to DrPH curriculum development especially toward equity, antiracist, and decolonized approaches to pedagogy, research, and practice; participate in other DrPH service and administrative duties (e.g. participate and attend the Summer Institute, support admission reviews, conduct student milestone reviews, participate in schoolwide administrative committees etc.)
Candidates must have:
- A doctoral degree in public health, community health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, public policy, or a related social science discipline.
- Professional practice experience including leadership roles.
- Experience teaching or training in an academic environment.
We are ideally seeking candidates who demonstrate practice, teaching, and research experience in anti-racist, equity-forward, and social justice leadership approaches to impact policy and systems change. This includes experience cultivating community-based initiatives using strategies that are contextually tailored to community/systems interests and priorities; developing shared power with communities and partners using engaged leadership and co-design in population-health related strategies and conducting research and practice using an anti-racist theoretical framework aligned with the advancement of social justice (e.g., critical race or feminist studies). Ideally the candidate has current research, evaluation and/or other scholarship projects and/or initiatives to bring into the program; demonstrated experience in obtaining external funding; and a record of peer-review publications and/or practice-relevant publications.
