Job Description

Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice – Architecture, College of DAAP

Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati embarks upon its third century – building on the past and defining the future by leading urban, public universities into a new era of innovation and impact through its strategic direction, Next Lives Here. Underscoring the power of creativity, ingenuity, invention and inclusion, what’s Next will accelerate our unrivaled momentum, evidenced by eight straight years of record enrollment and rankings that include placement among America’s top 100 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. Home to a diverse student body of nearly 47,000 and more than 4,200 distinguished faculty, the university combines its Research 1 (Very High Research Activity) Carnegie Classification with a physical setting that The New York Times recently acclaimed as “the most ambitious campus design program in the country”.

About the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning
The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a non-tenure track Architecture faculty position in the top-ranked School of Architecture and Interior Design at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (rank/title commensurate with credentials). The position is to commence employment on August 15, 2022.

The School of Architecture and Interior Design
The core mission of the Architecture Program at the School of Architecture and Interior Design is to prepare students for critical engagement with practice. The program promotes leadership, collaboration, intellectual depth, flexibility, and teamwork. The foundation of architecture education at UC remains a liberal arts education, which provides a broad basis for understanding the role of architecture within a cultural and historical context; and a professional curriculum that is enriched with elective seminars, lectures and design studios that provide opportunities to engage in travel/study programs, experimental projects, and service-learning. Students alternate these more traditional academic experiences with periods of professional experience through our landmark cooperative education program (co-op).

The School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID) confers an accredited first professional graduate degree in Architecture (M Arch), an accredited professional degree in Interior Design (BSID), an undergraduate degree in Architecture (BS Arch), a post-professional degree (MS Arch) and Ph.D. degree in Architecture. There are approximately 675 students in the School and 21 full-time faculty. SAID’s top-ranked professional degree programs, as well as the BS Arch degree program, include a renowned cooperative education program (Co-op) that places students in professional work environments as part of the curriculum. SAID’s Co-op network includes over 500 firms across the globe.

The School of Architecture and Interior Design recognizes non-tenure track faculty as professionals who have substantial knowledge and/or experience in the practical aspects of the School’s disciplines. Faculty appointed on a non-tenure track are eligible for reappointment and/or promotion, however, they do not have the right to request a review for tenure. To be eligible for tenure, non-tenure track faculty may apply for a separate open tenure-track appointment in the program, if one exists. The rights, privileges, responsibilities, and special protections of academic freedom of non-tenure track faculty with titles such as “Educator” or “of Practice” are described in the University’s Board Rules and the CBA.
