POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for two (2) full-time positions in the Clinical X or Health Sciences Professor Series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

The positions will be primarily dedicated to providing general hepatology care and sustaining a clinical research program in liver disease or a focus on education. The division currently has an active program of clinical trials and observational studies of NAFLD which one of the candidates will be expected to lead and continue to develop.
Clinical responsibilities will include providing hepatology outpatient consultations and endoscopic procedures as well as sharing the inpatient Hepatology consultation service. A Liver Transplant Program is under development and participation in clinical activities related to this will be required, although dedicated transplant hepatologists are currently being recruited under separate calls. Educational responsibilities will include supervision of consultations and procedures by fellows, residents, and medical students as well as providing lectures to various audiences.
The GI Division currently includes 19 faculty and 3 nurse practitioners, who provide services at 5 clinics and 4 ambulatory endoscopy units, with ongoing expansion. Strengths of the division include robust programs in motility, IBD, and hepatology with strategically planned growth in advanced endoscopy and a new liver transplant program Clinical research within the division is supported by the GI Clinical Trial Unit which includes 8 research coordinators and staff supporting over 50 studies. The division has a long-standing history of providing outstanding patient care and medical education focused on the training of 9 GI Fellows and 1 Advances Endoscopy Fellow.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education.
Candidates must have expertise in general gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures.
Candidates must possess an M.D. degree,

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)Be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
Must be qualified for licensure within the State of California.
