The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position with a primary focus on teaching food animal medicine, surgery, and herd health management to join the current food animal team. We are seeking a veterinarian with clinical experience with food animal species and herd health management to assist with the design and facilitation of active learning classroom sessions and clinical skills labs for first and second-year pre-clinical veterinary students. Our curriculum is organized by organ-system blocks, and this position will focus on supporting the clinical skills teaching and collaborate with the organ-system course leaders to contribute clinically relevant food animal course content geared toward “day-one-ready” veterinarians.

Second-year course involvement may include teaching in the food animal portions of advanced medical and surgical management as well as food animal and herd health electives. The curriculum is built on an inclusive, evidence-based pedagogy with the goal of graduating veterinarians trained in lifelong learning and prepared to excel in diverse career trajectories. Our faculty have the unique advantage of being part of a team consisting of pedagogy and technology experts to deliver content in innovative methodologies. Team Based Learning (TBL) and Peer Instruction (PI) methods will be used in classroom sessions—traditional didactic lectures are not part of the teaching program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to joining and contributing to an academic culture of inclusive and active learning. Abundant faculty development resources are available, both within the college and externally, to assist faculty in developing skills in active learning strategies.

Our Mission is to lead the profession as a student-centered program focused on developing career-ready veterinarians who will live healthy meaningful lives and serve their communities. We value an inclusive environment that fosters adaptive, innovative learners who will be successful leaders in the field of veterinary medicine. We believe in emphasizing critical thinking and evidence-based teaching to help students become skilled problem-solvers and lifelong learners. We are committed to extending The University of Arizona’s rich history of outstanding education to provide our students with the resources and knowledge that will help them succeed in all areas of life.

Duties & Responsibilities :
Participate as a team member in the support, development, and delivery of food animal and herd health pre-clinical veterinary medical doctorate curriculum including clinical skills courses.
Deliver curriculum content to veterinary students within the CVM vision of inclusive, evidence-based, active learning which includes using Team-Based Learning and Peer Instruction pedagogy, in which students take substantial ownership of their learning, and student classroom time is focused on the collaborative application of content (as opposed to a focus on delivery of content).
Participate in the development of elective courses for students with an interest in food animal species and assist in identifying and coordinating supporting expertise for the food animal electives.
Provide reasonable out-of-classroom availability to diverse cohorts of veterinary students for office hours and scheduled meetings to assist students with learning.
Engage in ongoing assessment and professional development aimed at the lifelong process of improving inclusive teaching and learning skills.
Contribute to the clinical year training by leveraging experience with food animal species to support the development and implementation of opportunities for clinical training in food animal species.
Engage in the CVM collegial community, the university community, and the larger global academic community through participation in shared governance, advisory committees, and academic/professional society meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
DVM degree (or international equivalent).
At least two years of clinical experience in food animal practice.

Preferred Qualifications:
At least four years of clinical experience with a variety of food animal species and herd health.
Clinical experience with beef, small ruminant, and/or avian medicine.
