Job Description

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Community and Technical College (CTC) is a major center for development and delivery of career, technical, community, workforce and continuing education programs. In keeping with the mission of the University of Alaska (UA). The UAA Aviation Technology Division (ATD), within the CTC, represents the latest in aviation education technologies in a large facility with state-of-the-art classrooms and labs. The mission of the ATD is to enhance, promote, and provide quality aviation education, research and service worldwide. The ATD offers a Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Aviation Administration of Professional Piloting as well as Associate degrees in Aviation Maintenance, Air Traffic Control, Aviation Administration, and Professional Piloting. Additionally, two Undergraduate Certificates are offered in Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program and the division offers a Minor in Aviation Technology.

The ATD is seeking two (2) highly qualified candidates to fill a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Aviation Technology faculty position. The workload for this position is bipartite to include teaching and service.

Duties:
Support the University of Alaska Anchorage bi-partite mission of performing teaching and service as a member of the teaching faculty.
The incumbent will work as part of a team, while teaching a variety of courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content guide(s). Course topic areas may include but are not limited to the following:

•         Aviation Safety
•         Aviation Security
•         Airline / Airport / General Aviation Operations and Management
•         Resource Management
•         Human Factors in Aviation
•         Elements of Weather
•         Air Transportation Seminar

Curriculum development. Applicant will be required to research and develop new courses and coordinate internship opportunities.
Foster and maintain industry partnerships.
Hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.
Advise students.
Continuous professional development activities.
Participate in Departmental, Division, College, and University committee activities.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Documented successful post-secondary teaching experience is required.

Required Experience:
Minimum five years significant experience in airline, corporate, government, or general aviation, OR a minimum three years significant industry experience and two or more years faculty experience is required.
Three or more year of experience as an aviation faculty member with an accredited college or university is preferred.
Experience and proficiency using computer, online course management systems, and other instructional technologies is preferred.

Typical Education or Training:
Earned Master’s degree from an accredited university is required.
Bachelor, or Masters, or Doctorate degree in Aviation, Aviation/Business Management, or related field with extensive industry experience is preferred.
Advanced FAA Pilot and/or Certified Flight Instructor Certificate(s), and/or FAA Dispatched Certificate is desirable.
