POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting a faculty member in the Regular (Tenure-Track)/In-Residence or Clinical X series at the Associate/Full Professor rank in the field of Pulmonary and Critical care. Faculty in this series are expected to engage in teaching, independent research and creative work, demonstrate professional competence and activity, and provide University and public service.
The successful candidate will be a physician-leader who will serve as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. This full-time position will be at the Associate or Full Professor level in the University of California Academic Senate, either in the Regular (Tenure-Track)/In-Residence Series or Clinical X (https://academicaffairs.ucdavis.edu/academic-senate-series.) Qualifications for the Ladder Rank (Tenure-track) and Clin X series are explained in detail at https://academicaffairs.ucdavis.edu/academic-senate-series. The principal qualifications for appointment in the Clinical X series include national or international reputation in scholarship (demarcated by publications, grants, and awards) and demonstrated excellence in teaching. This recruitment is conducted only at these ranks and the resulting hire will only be at the Associate/Full rank.
The Chief provides the vision and administrative leadership for the Division’s clinical services, educational programs, research enterprise, and is responsible for budget and resource allocation. The Chief will be directly involved in teaching, research, and clinical service in their recognized area of expertise. Scholarly focus in critical care, advanced lung disease, or data sciences is particularly sought. The Chief will be expected to provide leadership by strengthening the Division’s clinical and research endeavors in the face of the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, building strong interdisciplinary partnerships within the School of Medicine and across the schools and colleges on the UC Davis Campus, particularly the School of Veterinary Medicine, and providing strategic planning with other healthcare and community providers. The Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine reports to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Timothy E. Albertson.
The successful candidate is eligible to be nominated as the Gordon A. Wong, M.D., Endowed Professorship in Pulmonary and Critical Care.
Responsibilities of the Endowed Professorship include:
• Conduct teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
• Promote and develop opportunities to increase awareness of and enhance research opportunities in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
• Provide leadership and be fully engaged in activities in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care/Sleep Medicine.
• Conduct research on and perform service in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine and the broader community.
• Develop a very collaborative collective group of individuals who will work with you toward the common research goal to develop latest advances in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.

• A strong understanding of how to build translational research and clinical practice partnerships in academic medicine.
• An ability to foster cross-departmental research and training through collaborations and partnerships among individuals who will work with you toward the common research goal of developing the latest advances in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
• Demonstrated experience in recruiting highly qualified and promising faculty and/or students.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to build and maintain relationships with faculty, administration, trainees, and medical, nursing, and technical staff.
• Financial budgeting and resource management skills.
• Values and actively advocates for equity, diversity and inclusion within the division and health system.
• Provide service to department, school, and campus committees.
• Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
• Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)• Candidate must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree
• Candidate will demonstrate a strong record of scholarship and leadership
• Candidate will have strong clinical skills and interest in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
• Candidate will have outstanding record of research creativity, independence, and productivity
• Candidate will demonstrate experience in establishing and sustaining extramurally funded research programs
• Candidate will show success in developing and maintaining successful inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary programs
• Candidate must be able to build programs that engage diverse communities.
• Candidates must have demonstrated success in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)• Candidate must be board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine and must be eligible for licensure in the State of California.
