Position:
The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month, Assistant Professor position in Inorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2023.
Qualifications:
PhD in inorganic chemistry or closely related chemical science field. Individuals with postdoctoral experience are strongly encouraged to apply. The department is particularly interested in candidates with the ability to teach upper-level inorganic chemistry as well as general chemistry. Candidates with experience in experimental and/or computational (bio)organometallic chemistry, catalysis, coordination polymers, machine learning, or data science are particularly encouraged to apply. Salary shall be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
Faculty members are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) courses per academic year for the first year. Teach undergraduate lecture and lab courses, including upper-division inorganic chemistry, general chemistry, and potentially other courses as assigned. Establish a competitive research program that engages undergraduate students in related areas of inorganic chemistry as mentioned above. Pursue external funding and disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
Department of Chemistry:
The Department of Chemistry is ACS accredited, with 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty actively engaged in externally funded research involving undergraduates and graduate students. The department enrolls over 300 undergraduates in chemistry, forensic chemistry and chemistry secondary education and 40 graduate students in the Forensic Science Master’s Program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (MBBB) and Environmental Science. Additional collaborative opportunities may be available with science faculty in the departments of Anthropology, Biology, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics Astronomy & Geosciences.
