Job Description

The University of Chicago invites applications for a Senior Instructional Professor (SIP) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full in the Department of Psychology (https://psychology.uchicago.edu/) and the College. This is a new, full-time position with responsibilities for program management, teaching, and advising. The initial appointment term is from three to five years depending on rank and will begin on or after July 1, 2024, and is renewable based on a performance review.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) under the guidance of the Psychology Department’s Chair to help manage and support the Undergraduate Studies in Psychology program and the psychology specializations in the Division of Social Sciences masters programs. Responsibilities include joint supervision of instructional professors and instructional support positions; developing and implementing curricular and co-curricular programming to support undergraduate and masters students’ academic, research, and professional development; and collaborating closely with masters programs and faculty in Psychology to help facilitate MA students’ research placements. The successful applicant is also expected to teach four courses per year. Specific course assignments will vary with need but may include UG and cross-listed UG/MA-level courses. The department is particularly interested in candidates who can flexibly contribute to the department’s curriculum in psychological science with the ability to teach a broad array of courses. The candidate must demonstrate potential to design and teach courses to undergraduate and MA-level students at a selective university.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field focusing on basic science research questions in psychology and have a record of undergraduate teaching, research advising, and experience working in a team supporting program administration.

Candidates should apply online at the University of Chicago’s Interfolio website at apply.interfolio.com/138374. Applications must include (1) a cover letter in which you address your teaching, research advising, and administrative qualifications for this position; (2) a current curriculum vitae; (3) three letters of recommendation; (4) a teaching statement; (5) syllabi for two proposed courses—a large lecture survey course in a subfield of psychology and an advanced seminar cross-listed at the UG/MA level and (6) course evaluations or other evidence of past teaching performance.  Ph.D. must be in hand by start of appointment.

Review of applications will begin on January 22, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled or the search has ended.
