The University of Chicago invites applications for appointment as Instructional Professor (IP) at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full in the Department of Psychology ( and the College. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position. The initial appointment term is from three to five years depending on rank and will begin on or after July 1, 2024, and is renewable with opportunity for promotion based on a performance review.

The successful candidate will annually teach 6 quarter-long undergraduate classes. Assignments may include intensive discussion courses in the Social Sciences Core curriculum, as well as introductory survey-level classes and upper-level electives in psychology. We are particularly interested in candidates who are qualified to teach both introductory and advanced courses in data analytic techniques and computational tools used in psychological research. Although the area of expertise in psychology is open, the successful candidate will have expertise in using these techniques in their own research. The IP will also participate in co-curricular and service activities that help support the teaching mission of the department, including occasional workshops and advising for students on the use of such tools in their own research projects. The IP may train and manage teaching assistants. The position includes time and support for professional development.

This position will be part of the Service Employees International Union.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in psychological science or a related discipline focusing on basic research questions in psychology; the degree must be in-hand prior to the start date. Teaching experience with undergraduate courses focusing on basic research questions in psychology is required. The candidate’s record must demonstrate potential to design and teach courses to undergraduate students at a selective university.
