Library Materials Handling Assistant (6 Months; Onsite)

 

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION:

 

The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a dependable and eager-to-learn individual for a six-month position as Materials Handling Assistant for The Claremont Colleges Library.

 

The Materials Handling Assistant focuses on tasks related to the physical collections including handling of physical materials, shelving, shelf-reading, general stacks maintenance, and inventory related tasks in all library locations. Specific duties include:

 

• Shelving

 

• General stacks maintenance tasks such as shelf-reading, shifting, monitoring, and labeling ranges, adjusting shelves, etc.

 

• Assisting with ongoing inventory, weeding, course readings, and other projects involving the physical collections

 

• Pulling and reshelving items as needed to assist Resource Sharing and User Services

 

Work Schedule: This position will work 40 hours per week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 6 months from hiring date. You may be required to work some holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. The work hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.

 

Vaccination: TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.

 

COMPENSATION

 

Pay: $18.00 per hour.

 

Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this position, it is only eligible for the following benefits: medical insurance (after 60 days of employment working at least 30 hours per week) California Sick Leave, workers’ compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security. Benefits are subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.

You are dependable, have a positive attitude, and arrive at work punctually as scheduled. You are a quick learner, work well with diverse individuals, and enjoy the library environment.

 

Education and Experience: This is an entry-level position requiring a high school diploma or the equivalent. No experience is required.

 

In addition, you have:

 

• Knowledge and understanding of the Library of Congress classification system or a desire and ability to learn quickly.

 

• Read, write, and understand English.

 

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 

• Ability to do detail-oriented work.

 

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

 

• Must be reliable and punctual.

 

Physically you can:

 

• Frequently lift up to 30 pounds without assistance.

 

• Frequently push a fully loaded book cart.
