Job Description

Position Description :
Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Ranked among the top third of academic research libraries nationally, Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries’ system is comprised of: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, and the (3) Architecture Library. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections, and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

Major/Essential Functions :
Manages the Materials Processing of materials assigned to the multicultural collections.
Prepare and maintain accurate statistical records and reports on BCC Library stacks activities such as shifting, reshelving, searching, shelf reading, etc.
Assist in library vendor relations that directly affect materials processing unit.
Catalog published materials using RDA Toolkit and applying AACR2 and RDA rules.
Participates with other library staff in the administration of systems related to material processing.
Responsible for planning and assessment of the unit’s work, efficiency, fiscal responsibility, technology, and personnel development.
Copies, saves, and edits records in the Library Management System.
Manages all updates to the public website and the SharePoint website.
Hire, train, supervises, train, and conduct performance evaluations for staff and students.
Assist with implementation of software upgrades and new products.
Updates, provide reports, and shares ideas/solutions with Library Administration.
Work a regular schedule at the service desk, including evening and weekend, and may be assigned to work other Library service desks as needed.

Required Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications :
Demonstrated effective management skills, including communication, planning, organizing, and supervising.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a team environment.
Capacity to maximize organizational productivity and is methodical in planning and performing.
Be very dependable and conscientious.
Display an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations.
