Assistant Dean, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Resources

The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources will be a person who develops, delivers, promotes and assesses programs and activities that contribute to the Fox School of Business (FSBM) and School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) culture to promote inclusivity among community members. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean and working closely with the Dean of the FSBM and STHM, the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources will, in collaboration with university HR and Institutional Diversity, Equity and Leadership (IDEAL),  review all processes and policies regarding hiring, review, retention, and promotion with the goal of developing equitable policies, providing faculty and staff training, and identifying practices that enhance the culture for school personnel. The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources will be knowledgeable in benefits administration, compensation analysis, human resources policies, and personnel management. The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources will provide visible strategies, develop a comprehensive framework focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and include measurable action steps that address the unique needs of the FSBM and STHM. This role will introduce emerging practices to move the schools forward in becoming a more welcoming and inclusive learning and working environment for all constituencies. This individual will serve as the organizational expert on changes in regulatory and market conditions that may affect school inclusion programs and implement changes and/or adjustments aligned with university policy to ensure compliance and advancement of goals.

The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources develops, manages, and executes services that address recruitment, retention, and professional development of all staff in both schools, with a special focus on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. This position directs, manages, and oversees all staff human resources functions, including employee relations, training, and development, recognition, and benefits. The person serves as the primary resource for the schools regarding all matters relative to campus personnel policies and procedures and acts as the primary liaison with Central Human Resources and other campus administrative offices relating to personnel matters.

Serving as a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team, the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources also collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean of Fox and STHM on all faculty personnel policies that are specific to the schools and ensures that the schools adhere to all university faculty policies and guidelines. The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources works with their HR Business Partner and Labor Relations to resolve grievances and personnel issues. The incumbent will work with various university, school, and external entities to plan, coordinate, and institute services in support of the missions and goals of both schools.

The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources has responsibility for overseeing the work of human resources personnel in the Dean’s office.

The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources remains current on all issues and policies affecting the FSBM and STHM portfolio and provides fully rationalized recommendations on solutions-oriented actions and plans. The incumbent provides school-wide communications on administrative policy and human resources matters and represents the schools as needed at university meetings and functions including Administrative Council and HR Council.

The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Resources also performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a related area and at least 6 years of related experience in a complex business or university setting. Experience should include progressive leadership responsibility in a role related to HR and diversity, equity, and inclusion. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with MS Office Suite software programs (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, including the ability to find mutually acceptable solutions to difficult problems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to take the initiative to resolve issues in a creative manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle challenging situations with tact.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform special projects, and prepare various financial, statistical, and other reports.
  • Ability to participate in the planning, implementation, and management of department programs and to be responsible for monitoring all programs to ensure they are meeting their stated goals.
  • Ability to provide oversight, supervision, and development of staff.
  • Ability to serve as contact and liaison with Human Resources, University Counsel, and other University departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, balancing priorities, resources and responsibilities
  • Demonstrated skill in effectively managing administrative operations.
  • Excellent analytical skills to develop creative, practical solutions and recommendations, as well as to define and conduct special projects within the areas of administration, organizational management, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to adapt communications to diverse audiences with varying backgrounds or understanding of the subject matter.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external units and partners, lead others toward the successful accomplishment of common objectives and collaborate with others to resolve problems.
  • Ability to effectively manage human resources issues and supervise managers, and professional and administrative staff members.
  • Skill in project management.
  • Extensive knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices sufficient to direct and advise others in these matters.

Master’s degree; Experience in an academic institution.

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
