Associate Professor/Professor Tenure Track

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to build a brand-new PhD program from the ground up at a university enjoying record, year-over-year growth. The next Associate Professor/Professor will serve a critical need in the large and rapidly expanding Department of Mathematics at Tarleton State University. This position will play a pivotal role in the successful program launch and initial doctoral student recruitment, teaching, and research activities.

 

The next Associate Professor/Professor Tenure Track will be primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

60% Teaching and Service: Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Exhibit a mature view of the academic discipline; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. May be required to teach at other campuses or on-line. Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.

 

40% Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline. Mentor student researchers at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Apply for external funding as appropriate.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  
Faculty in the rank of Associate Professor/Professor shall have demonstrated academic and professional achievement. Those appointed to the rank of Associate Professor/Professor will demonstrate teaching excellence, scholarly/creative attainment, and professional achievement both within and outside the university.

 

Minimum Requirements  

 

  • Earned doctorate/terminal degree in mathematics or a closely related field, approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges with appropriate academic credentials verified by Tarleton’s faculty credentialing processes
  • Earned tenure and promotion to rank of Associate Professor or higher at a comparable institution
  • Demonstrated pattern of excellence in research, teaching, and service
  • Experience supervising doctoral dissertations
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students at all levels, especially doctoral candidates

Preferred Qualifications  

 

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated:

  • Potential for interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Record of external grant funding
  • Expertise in applied mathematics, statistics, or data science
